Welcome to 2ndWind, the Bay Area's newest ‘Fitness Lifestyle’ organization

2ndWind is dedicated to supporting runners of all levels in the Bay Area.   Whether you are running for the first time, have marathon experience or ambitions, 2ndWind will customize a training program according to your individual fitness level and personal goals.  Our philosophy is to, “Train Smarter, Not Harder.”  It is our joy to pass on to you the motivation and knowledge you need to get started, succeed and keep going.



2009 Jump-Start Your Running with 2ndWind

 A  new year has been ushered upon us and we are faced with a myriad of hopes and aspirations.  If you are like the average individual, you probably have set forth some New Year resolutions.  I know I have.  The problem now is seeing them through.  Saying you're going to do something is one thing while actually going through with it is a totally different thing but remember:  "The past does not equal the future".

Goal-setting is a crucial component of any successful athletic program for without specified goals it is difficult to measure or even recognize the succes your athletes achieve over the course of a season.  So, if you love running as much as the next person, then you probably have set forth some goals relating to your level of fitness and/or physique.  We have a plan that'll help you make the transition from minimal winter running to maximum spring fitness.  Here's what  we're going to do:  We'll provide you 52 weeks of training, taking you through the first month of your season in this training program.  We'll also provide you with fine-tuning suggestions each and every week at our weekly training update, starting the week of 12/29/09.  That's why you join 2ndWind because your success will become and important part of 2ndWind.

Have you ever wanted to be part of a special team? 2ndWind Athletics is looking for new recruits for its 2009  race team to serve as ambassadors for our community. We are striving to create a very diverse team of runners with a wide range of running abilities and enthusiasm for 2ndWind’s club mission.     Nutritution
    Your carb needs are quite different than those of your sedentary pals.  If you're running about 25 miles a week, aim for at least 2.25 grams of carbohydrate every day for each pound of body weight.  That's about 340 grams of carbs for a 150-pound runner (nonrunners need just 250 grams a day).  If you're running higher mileage, increase this to three to 3.5 grams of carbs for each pound you weigh.
